Three Days in Bangkok

If you would like to maximize your time in any country you are visiting, wake up early!!! The Wandering Avocados always like to start their day early so we can have some rest and relaxation time in the afternoon.

Day 1 :

We arrived on New Year’s Eve. We used this day to explore the area close to the hotel. We familiarized ourselves with the SkyTrain, which is convenient for getting around the city if you don’t wish to take a tuk tuk.

Day 2:

We rung in 2017 with a visit to the temples. Due to the death of the King of Thailand, King Bhumibol Adulydej, the country was in mourning on New Year’s Day. This meant that the Grand Palace was closed to non residents of Thailand.

All of the following sites a must see!!! The architecture is amazing.  They are located close to one another, so to save time, try to see all on one day. We started at 8 am and were leisurely back at our hotel between 1- 2pm. We took the Chao Phraya Express Boat to get to the Grand Palace. To get to Wat Arun you will have to pay a nominal fee of 4 THB to get across the river by boat. You are in the area, so please try to visit it.

Grand Palace

Temple of the Emerald Buddha

Temple of the Reclining Buddha

Wat Arun

To get back to your hotel, you can either hop back on the Chao Phraya Express or take a tuk tuk back. Tuk tuks are touristy but very fun and you need to try it at least once while in Thailand!

In the evening, some of us adults ventured out after dinner to check out a roof top patio. We had a fantastic view of Bangkok from the Octave Rooftop Bar at the Marriott Hotel (This is a another Marriott property in the city, not too far from the JW Marriott)

Day 3:

This is the day where our friends and family divided into two groups: The tourists and the shoppers!

The tourists ventured out to explore the following:

Khaosan Road

The Flower Market

Jim Thompson House

Floating Markets
